The beaches of St. Johns County are both secluded and unspoiled with over 40 miles of scenic, uncluttered coastline. This vast coastline offers residents and visitors alike the choice to park off-beach and walk or sunbathe along endless miles of pristine coastline or park directly on the sand and enjoy a dip in the surf near one of several staffed lifeguard towers.

Beach Parking Pass

Marine Life – The intertidal zone is home to a variety of sea creatures that have been known to injure the occasional unsuspecting beachgoer. Marine animals such as Jelly fish, stingrays, sea urchins, saltwater catfish, algae blooms, barnacles, and of course sharks are among the most feared, despite the relatively low number of injuries. Heeding the advice of lifeguards and other public safety officials will minimize your chances of encountering one of these creatures.

Lifeguards – Lifeguards are stationed along various stretches of the shoreline for your protection. You can help them make your stay a safe and enjoyable one by checking with them on local conditions and by swimming with a buddy in front of a staffed lifeguard tower.

Sea Turtle Protection Program

St. Johns County is home to several species of endangered or threatened sea turtles that arrive every spring and summer to nest along our coastline. Those of us who live in and visit St. Johns County have a special opportunity and responsibility to protect these magnificent creatures and their vulnerable nesting and feeding grounds.

In the south, the St. Augustine Lighthouse looms above the lagoon at Anastasia State Park. Today, the lighthouse is still an active aid-to-navigation; now the old light also watches over the windsurfers who flock to the Salt Run inlet for the breeze that never seems to die.

In the north is Ponte Vedra Beach. At the Guana River State Park, the balance between preservation of one of Florida's richest ecological cradles (the 40-ft sand dunes are the largest in Florida) and a lifestyle of uncompromising elegance distinguish this expanding community nestled in the heart of one of the nation's oldest beach communities.
